FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?

No, it does not hurt! The needles are very tiny and do not rip the skin upon insertion. There might be a slight sensation like a mosquito bite when the needle is first inserted but that goes away after a few moments.

WHAT CAN ACUPUNCTURE TREAT?

Acupuncture can treat so much! From muscle pain to headaches to asthma to depression to insomnia. For more on the specific ailments acupunture can treat please visit our treatments page.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I HAVE TO GET?

This is answered on a case by case basis. In general, most patients receive a course of treatment ranging from 6 - 10 acupuncture treatments. The initial treatment lasts about 90 minutes and all following treatments last approximately 60 minutes.

WHAT HAPPENS ON MY FIRST VISIT?

When you schedule your initial treatment you will receive an email with the new patient paperwork. You can fill this out online from your computer or phone. Please fill this out before your initial appointment. If you cannot fill this paperwork out online please arrive 15 minutes early to your first appointment where you will be able to fill out a physical copy of the questionnaire. Once you arrive, you will receive an in-depth consultation during which your acupuncturist will decide on the treatments best suited for you. Most patients find acupuncture very relaxing and it is not uncommon to fall asleep during treatment.

WHAT IS CUPPING? WHEN IS IT USED?

Cupping is a traditional form of bodywork using vacuum sealed cups. When the cups are put on the body it creates an inverse pressure which stretches the muscles and surrounding fascia, increases local blood flow, and can pull lactic acid out of the muscles to allow them to become less tense.

DO YOU DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN ACUPUNCTURE?

Yes. Depending on the specific needs of the client we may supplement acupuncture with treatments such as Cupping, Gua Sha, or Tui Na. We also highly recommend making use of our herbal supplement options which are tailored specifically to your needs. These herbal supplements will help prolong the benefits of your acupuncture treatment and will keep you healthier until your next treatment. (Prices on herbal supplements vary).

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS OF ACUPUNCTURE?

Yes, but most are mild. Since acupuncture uses a needle to break the skin there is a small chance that a bruise can result. The other most common side effect of acupuncture is dizziness following a treatment. Since acupuncture dilates the blood vessels this can cause your blood pressure to momentarily drop after treatment. To counteract this I have all of my patient sit up slowly after treatment and take their time getting ready.
